Types of BA Projects -2
8. Infrastructure Upgrade Projects
Objective: Modernize the company’s technological foundation, such as transitioning from on-premise systems to cloud solutions.
Example: A bank decides to move its operations to the cloud. The BA:
Gathers requirements for the migration process.
Documents the functionality of the on-premise system for comparison.
Plans and oversees data migration to the cloud.
Tests the cloud-based system to ensure no performance issues arise.
Coordinates with teams to roll out the upgraded system.
9. Compliance or Regulatory Projects
Objective: Ensure the company’s software systems comply with new laws, regulations, or industry standards.
Example: A financial institution must meet new government requirements for data privacy. The BA:
Analyzes the current system for gaps in compliance.
Works with legal teams to interpret regulations.
Documents changes needed to meet compliance.
Coordinates with developers to implement updates.
Tests and audits the system to verify compliance.
10. Business Process Reengineering (BPR) Projects
Objective: Improve existing processes by redesigning workflows and integrating better software solutions.
Example: A retail chain wants to streamline its inventory management. The BA:
Analyzes current processes to identify inefficiencies.
Proposes workflow changes and recommends automation tools.
Documents the new process flow and ensures alignment with business goals.
Works with IT to integrate the updated system.
11. Integration Projects
Objective: Connect multiple software systems to enable seamless data sharing and improved functionality.
Example: A company acquires another business and needs to integrate their customer databases. The BA:
Identifies overlapping functionalities and gaps between systems.
Documents integration requirements and maps data flows.
Tests the integrated system to ensure data consistency and performance.
12. Migration Projects
Objective: Move data and systems from one platform to another, often for scalability or cost savings.
Example: A company decides to migrate from a legacy CRM to Salesforce. The BA:
Maps data fields in the old and new systems.
Coordinates with IT to execute the migration plan.
Tests the new system to ensure data accuracy post-migration.
Trains users on the new platform.
13. Digital Transformation Projects

Example: A traditional retailer wants to launch an e-commerce platform. The BA:
Analyzes current business processes and gaps.
Documents the requirements for the new platform.
Coordinates the development, testing, and deployment of digital solutions.
14. Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Projects
Objective: Prepare software systems to handle unexpected failures and ensure business continuity.
Example: A company implements a disaster recovery system to protect its critical operations. The BA:
Identifies potential risks and documents disaster scenarios.
Specifies backup and recovery requirements.
Tests the system to ensure minimal downtime during disruptions.
15. Innovation and R&D Projects
Objective: Experiment with cutting-edge technologies like AI, blockchain, or IoT to find new business opportunities.
Example: A logistics company wants to explore drone delivery. The BA:
Researches drone regulations and potential applications.
Collaborates with R&D teams to document requirements.
Proposes pilot projects to test the technology.
This might feel overwhelming but..remember not every companies does all these projects. Try to think of each project as a way for company's attempt at adding value or cutting costs.
Also remember, each project will be approved by a steering committee/management after a cost-benefot analysis.
